| Narrow-base terrace | A terrace no more than 4 to 8 feet wide at the base. A narrow-base terrace is similar to a broad-base terrace, except for the width of the ridge and channel. |
| Neutral soil | A soil having a pH value between 66 and 73 (See Reaction, soil). |
| Nose slope | The projecting end of an interfluve, where contour lines connecting the opposing side slopes form convex curves around the projecting end and lines perpendicular to the contours diverge downward. The overland flow of water is divergent. |
| Nutrient, plant | Any element taken in by a plant essential to its growth. Plant nutrients are mainly nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, iron, magnesium, copper, boron, and zinc obtained from the soil and carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen obtained from the air and water. |
